Travel to Seattle Washington this summer for a summer vacation that combines a great summer city with great adventure scenery and activities. The mistaken notion about Seattle is that it rains a lot in the summer. Most of the rain in Seattle falls in the winter and the summer is highlighted by a lot of cloud cover, but not daily rain like some might be imagining. The Pacific weather patterns keep Seattle cool in the summer making it a great spot for escaping above the heat. Travel to Seattle to escape above the heat this summer.
The coastal mountain scenery offers a wonderful natural backdrop to the cultural richness of Seattle. The peaks of Mt. Olympus, Mt. Baker, and Mt. Rainier are visible on clear days. Summer in Seattle boasts a great view from the Seattle Space Needle, Seattle Mariners games, mountain hiking and biking, ferry cruises with whale watching, and plenty of coffee. Theater performances compete for attention with the musical venues and the Seattle Art Museum (which includes access to the Seattle Asian Art Museum).
When you visit the Seattle Space Needle, you will also find the Seattle Center which hosts theaters, museums, shops, and other entertainment including the Experience Music Project (EMP) which is a musical shrine/display funded by Microsoft's Paul Allen. Pike Place Market (shops and the birthplace of the 90's coffee mania) is on the western edge of the downtown area overlooking Puget Sound. Watch out for the flying fish market. The International District is know as the center of the large Seattle Asian American community. Summer travelers will find ample student services and restaurants near the campus of the University of Washington left available by the students on summer vacation. Olympic National Park is on the other side of Puget Sound if you want to spend a day outside of Seattle.
